3 REGIONAL DISTRICTS, 5,400+ POPULATION, 100+ CHAMBER MEMBERS, ONE COMMUNITY

The Lumby & District Chamber of Commerce was able to initiate and complete a wide variety of projects in 2009 to assist businesses and to enable the community to improve and grow.  We are proud of these achievements; however, these projects would not have been possible without the ongoing support of businesses and individuals in the community.

Annual membership runs from January 1st to December 31st. As most of you are aware, we operate year round and are open 7 days a week commencing in the high tourist season.  The Early-Bird discount is 10% if you join before February 28th and regular (after February 28th) rates are shown on the application. In addition, if you wish to have your brochures racked on the Needles Ferry, please indicate on this form. There is an additional fee for this service.  The $13.00 additional fee enables members to take advantage of a number of discount programs available through our affiliation with the BC Chamber of Commerce.

DURING 2010 THE CHAMBER HAS INITIATED OR COMPLETED A NUMBER OF PROJECTS:

  • Operated and staffed the Visitor Centre full time from May to September with a total of approximately 9,750 visitors stopping during the year. Our Visitor Information Centre continues to receive a rating above 90% on our Tourism BC secret evaluation.  We are all extremely proud of the hard work our manager and her staff have done on our behalf to promote our area.

  • Statistics showed a substantial increase in the number of relocation packages provided to new and prospective businesses and residents. Throughout the Year over 1,000 persons requested information on Lumby and area in person, by telephone, mail and email.

  • Continually updated and improved the www.monasheetourism.com website.

  • To continue to help and support The Lumby Public Market which had another successful year and continues to grow in the Oval Park each Saturday from April to October.

  • Awarded two $250 scholarships to students who will be furthering his or her studies in the business field.

  • Successfully hosted the Second Annual Business Excellence Awards for Lumby & area business to receive recognition for all their hard work and accomplishments.

  • Partnered in organizing a New Canada Day Celebration in the Village with the Village of Lumby and continued to organize the Annual Lumby Light-Up Festival in December 2009.

  • Publish a comprehensive Annual Business Directory with enhanced listings for Chamber Members as well as a comprehensive Annual Recreation and Club listing for our community.

  • Organized very popular Business After Five Networking sessions to showcase numerous businesses about town as well as published semi-monthly Chamber Connection Newsletters to update and inform members.

  • Completed Visitor Guide in house for distribution in 2011.

  • Received approval from a partnership with Tourism BC the Regional District and the Village of Lumby for an “Info on the Go Project” that will see a fully equipped trailer attend events locally and around the province.

  • Complete the Equine Tourism project that identifies the Equine industry in our area as well as events and trails available for tourism.

  • Received initial approval on a Revitalization project that will see enhancements done throughout the area.

  • Complete and install the East End Signage Project that is ready for the upcoming season advertising.

  • The Chamber offers free internet access to residents and visitors during regular office hours. A supply of most-requested government forms, brochures and applications are stocked for the public.

  • The Chamber also sells hunting and fishing licenses, and distributes regulations associated with these.

Helping to create opportunities for area business is not without its challenges. It is critical that there is continued support and involvement of the members as this enables the Chamber to complete initiatives and to increase economic benefits for the businesses and residents of the area.

During the coming year, your continued support is more critical than ever as we move into a year filled with new initiatives and an ever growing workload.  We hope to take and active role in keeping in touch with you, the voice of business through our Chamber Connection and Business after Five Events, etc.  Again, your Chamber will be hosting an Annual General Meeting to address issues within our Chamber.
